Description
GYEON Q²M Masking Tape is an automotive masking tape designed to protect sensitive areas while machine polishing, correcting or otherwise working on your vehicle’s paintwork.
Before polishing, masking vulnerable areas such as rubber seals, unpainted plastic trim, panel edges and other sensitive sections can save considerable cleaning and frustration later. It helps prevent polishing compound from staining trim or becoming lodged in awkward gaps while also giving you a clear boundary around areas where extra care is required.
Q²M Masking Tape is designed with detailing work in mind, making it a more appropriate choice around automotive surfaces than simply reaching for whatever general-purpose tape happens to be in the garage.
It’s a small part of the paint-correction process, but proper preparation can make the difference between a tidy, controlled polishing job and spending additional time afterwards removing compound residue from places it was never supposed to reach.
For anyone machine polishing a vehicle, masking should form part of the preparation stage, not an afterthought.
Prestige Detailing Tips
- Apply masking tape only to clean, dry surfaces. Dirt or moisture beneath the tape can compromise adhesion and make accurate masking more difficult.
- Protect vulnerable areas including rubber seals, textured plastic trim and other surfaces you don’t want polishing compound contacting.
- Pay particular attention to panel edges and sharp body lines during machine polishing. Paint can be thinner in these areas, so masking can also serve as a useful visual reminder to work cautiously.
- Don’t unnecessarily polish directly over masking tape. Its purpose is to establish and protect the boundary around the area you’re correcting.
- Remove and reposition tape when moving between stages if it has become heavily contaminated with compound or polish residue.
- Don’t leave masking tape on the vehicle unnecessarily after the job is complete. Remove it carefully once the polishing stage has finished.
- Working through a full correction? Our paint correction guide covers the wider process.
- After polishing, remove remaining oils and residue with GYEON Q²M Prep before applying a compatible ceramic coating or other protection.
- Masking Tape has no curing requirements of its own, but always observe the application and curing instructions of any protection product used after correction.
